Meeting with the Venezuelan Poetess Held at the State Translation Centre

On October 3, 2024, a meeting was held with the Venezuelan poetess Ana Maria Oviedo Palomares, the author of the book “Kingdom of the Willows” translated and published in the Azerbaijani language by the State Translation Centre in cooperation with the Embassy of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela in Azerbaijan.

Opening the event with an introduction speech, Afaq Masud, Board Chair of the Centre, People’s Writer, spoke about the special importance always given to Latin American literature during the activity of the organization, the works that had been translated and published into Azerbaijani, and noted that the book “Kingdom of the Willows” was the continuation and another manifestation of the tradition.

Etimad Bashkechid, Head of the Office for Science, Education and Culture of the Centre and writer-translator, Yashar Aliyev, Adviser on Press, Translation and Publication Issues of the Centre and writer-translator, spoke about the artistic merits and relevance of the poems in the above-mentioned book and noted that the topics of the verses would be of interest to Azerbaijani readers.

Then, Mr. Christopher Alberto Martinez Berroteran, Ambassador of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela to Azerbaijan, and Maria Victoria Romero Caballero, Ambassador of the United Mexican States, spoke about the projects implemented in the framework of cooperation with the State Translation Centre and emphasized that the works carried out had made significant contributions both to the expansion of intercultural relations and the establishment of cordial relations between our peoples.

At the end of the event, the floor was given to the guest of the Centre, the famous Venezuelan poetess Ana Maria Palomares. She, first, expressed her deep gratitude to the Centre, stressing that she was proud of having been published in such a powerful country as Azerbaijan. Then she added that the publication of her works in the Azerbaijani language would remain a significant event in her creative biography, and also stated that she was ready to cooperate with the Centre in rendering samples of Azerbaijani poetry to Venezuelan readers. Later, the poetess and Mahir Garayev, the author of the literary translation of the collection, recited some poems from the book in the Spanish and Azerbaijani languages.
