The Azerbaijan State Translation Centre has published a voluminous book “The Classification of Words Extracted from “The Spelling Dictionary of the Azerbaijani Language” (abridged 453 pages) that includes spelling and grammar errors, word formations with strange meanings, and sound imitations that cast a shadow on our national mentality, Arabic, Persian, Mongolian, Hindi, Chinese, Russian, English, French, etc. words and phrases fallen into disuse, names of foreign shops, car wash stations, websites, portals, repair companies, production companies, trading companies, names and surnames of foreign origin extracted from “The Spelling Dictionary of the Azerbaijani Language” (The Nasimi Institute of Linguistics; 2013 and 2021 editions).

The above-mentioned Dictionary, which is considered to be the source of both our national language and the official vocabulary, is the book that under the guise of “enriching our language” and “increasing our vocabulary” had for years been stuffed with thousands (in total more than 60 000) of useless words and phrases, in many cases, the ones humiliating our national dignity.

It should be mentioned that the book “The Classification of Words Extracted from “The Spelling Dictionary of the Azerbaijani Language” is arranged as an introductory section entitled “Statistics of growth of words and phrases with wrong spelling by years and editions included in “The Spelling Dictionary of the Azerbaijani Language” followed by such sections as “Word formation”, “Sound imitations”, “Words incorrectly spelt or with wrong meaning”, “Words with different spellings”, “Arabic, Persian, Russian words and words of foreign origin fallen into disuse”, “Elements of oral speech, popular language”, “Irrelevant declensions of words”, “Narrowly specialized terms.”

The compiler of the manual intended for research on linguistics and lexicography is Afaq Masud, the People’s Writer, and the technical editors are Bahlul Abbasov, Farrukh Rzayev and Seljan Abbasova.
