Tobias Lorentzson: "The Expansion of Swedish-Azerbaijani Literary Relations Is a Necessary and Historical Matter"
On February 1, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Sweden to Azerbaijan Tobias Lorentzson visited the State Translation Centre. During the meeting, the exchange of views took place on the translation and publication projects implemented by the Centre in relation to the promotion of Swedish literature in Azerbaijan and the expansion of the international literary ties. The parties talked about the importance of long-running translation and publication projects that have been implemented in the world literature magazine “Khazar” since 90s and the presentation of works by world-famous writers and poets, such as August Strindberg, Selma Lagerlöf, Pär Lagerkvist, Eyvind Johnson, Tomas Tranströmer, to the Azerbaijani reader.
During the meeting, Mr. Lorentzson emphasized that "the expansion of Swedish-Azerbaijani literary relations is a necessary and historical matter". The Ambassador presented the Centre with the book Nobel Brothers dedicated to the life and activities of the famous Nobel brothers, who built up a substantial part of their huge capital in Baku through funds from Azerbaijani oil. The guest was similarly presented with the exquisitely designed book An Anthology of Swedish Prose released by the Centre the other day.
