Azerbaijan State Translation Centre Announces Next Round of Literary Contest

To evaluate the level of translation and stimulate the development of the translation in the country, the Azerbaijan State Translation Centre announces the next round of the literary contest “BAY LEAF” to be held once every 5 years.

 

 

 

 

 

 


“BAY LEAF” LITERARY CONTEST

 

Terms:

* Small excerpts of prose and poetry, translated from the original into Azerbaijani

   in 2020-2021, are accepted for the contest:

 - prose – up to 20.000 signs.

 - poetry– up to 100 hemistiches.

*  On each nomination, only one author and one book is awarded.

* The author shall submit only one book to the contest.

* There is no age limit for candidates.

* The date for receiving the translation of works - October 01, 2021, and the

   deadline - December 20, 2021.

* The winners will be announced at the Award Ceremony to be organized on March 5, 2022.

 

Procedures:   

 * In the first stage the translations shall be submitted with numbers to be labelled (name withheld) to the Expert Council. The translations of contestants reaching the second stage – the first 20 books – will be submitted to Award Commission;

 * The books are evaluated in accordance with from 5 to 10 scoring system;

 * Names of experts and members of the Award Commission must remain unknown

 until the Award Ceremony.

 *  The winners will get a diploma, special badge and honorarium.

 

Awards Fund:

 

For prose:

I place (award) – AZN 2,000 (two thousand)

II place (award) – AZN 1,000 (one thousand)

III place (award) – AZN 500 (five hundred)

Incentive Award – AZN 300 (three hundred)

 

For poetry:

I place (award)  – AZN 2,000 (two thousand)

II place (award) – AZN 1,000 (one thousand)

III place (award) – AZN 500 (five hundred)

Incentive Award – AZN 300 (three hundred)

 

Dispatch rules:

Works with the list of author’s other translated samples and the source of publication must be sent by e-mail (musabiqe@aztc.gov.az), or must be submitted in 5 hard copies;

*  It is important to indicate the original language version of the book;

*  Participants not meeting the Contest Requirements will be rejected.

  • The Book “Heydar Aliyev and Georgia” Presented in Tbilisi The Book “Heydar Aliyev and Georgia” Presented in Tbilisi

     

    The presentation ceremony of the book “Heydar Aliyev and Georgia” dedicated to the “Year of Heydar Aliyev” and published by the leading Georgian “Merani” Publishing House has been held in Tbilisi. In her opening speech at the event launched in the large assembly hall of the Parliament of Georgia Makvala Gonashvili, the Chairman of the Writers’ Union of Georgia and winner of the Rustaveli State Prize, spoke about Heydar Aliyev’s decisive role in the political, economic and social life of Georgia in the difficult periods of its history and energy projects thanks to which fundamental changes in the field of policy and economic realities in the region had been achieved. Then, Afag Masud, the Board Chair of the Azerbaijan State Translation Centre and People’s Writer took the floor.
