NIZAMI GANJAVI’S ‘SEVEN BEAUTIES’ LAUNCHED IN MADRID

The “Espacio Ronda” Cultural Centre has hosted the launch of the book “Seven Beauties” by Azerbaijan’s great poet and thinker Nizami Ganjavi, published in Madrid due to the poet’s 880th anniversary. The event was attended by notable literature and science figures, as well as the general public in Spain.

In the opening speech, Professor Pablo Beneito, Doctor of Philology, Chairman of the Muhyiddin Ibn Arabi Society (MIAS) in Spain, spoke about the impact of the great poet’s poem “Seven Beauties” on world poetry, the development of Spain -Azerbaijani literary ties and its significant contribution to the literature exchange between the two countries.

Then, Fernando Cabal Riera, Director of Madrid-based reputable Mandala Ediciones Publishing House, Ana Crespo, a writer and artist, Magsad Huseynov, a representative of the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Spain, and other guests spoke about deep wisdom, justice, humanism, equality, love and compassion depicted in Nizami Ganjavi’s poetry.

In the end of the event, Ana Crespo, presented slides of her paintings on Sufism and responded to queries on the topic.

The book, first published in Madrid, Spain in 2000, had a foreword introducing Nizami Ganjavi to Spanish-speaking readers as a “Persian poet.” On the initiative and by efforts of the State Translation Centre a book with a new foreword was published, which for the first time presented Nizami Ganjavi to readers as a great Azerbaijani poet based on scientific arguments and facts.

The book has been published by Madrid-based reputable Mandala Ediciones Publishing House. The translator is Carmen Linares, a prominent Spanish translator. The author of the foreword to the book is Rustam Aliyev, a well-known scientist-researcher of Nizami’s creativity, and the editor is a renowned Spanish philologist Francisco Capilla Martín.
