The Azerbaijan Translation Centre under the Cabinet of Ministers (AzTC) on Wednesday received a visit from H.E. Mr Jose Luis Diez Juarez, the Spanish Charge d'affaires ad interim to the Republic of Azerbaijan.

After greeting the Spanish diplomat AzTC Director Afag Masud spoke about the Translation Centre and its work, the translation of samples of world literature into Azerbaijani and promotion of the Azerbaijani literature across the world, reforms made in the field of the language and the translation industry. Ms A. Masud underlined the great interest in Spanish literature: ‘Great Spanish writers Miguel de Cervantes, Camilo José Cela, Federico Garsia Lork, Eduardo

Mendosa sparked interest of Azerbaijanis in Spanish literature. I hope the voluminous book Selected Works by Miguel Delibes will be met with great interest by the Azerbaijani readers.’  

Mr Jose Luis Diez Juarez, in turn, expressed his gratitude for the invitation to visit the Centre and for the promotion of Spanish literature in Azerbaijan. ‘I was pleased to attend the Azerbaijani courses arranged by the AzTC. I set a high value on AzTC’s work on literary translation and I am proud of your friendly attitude towards Spanish literature’, said the diplomat.

Mr Jose Luis Diez Juarez stated that the Embassy of Spain had carried out activities on the designing and the publication of dictionaries in the Spanish language. According to the Spanish diplomat, translation activities would form and strengthen the basis for literary and spiritual bridges between the two countries. Mr Jose Luis Diez Juarez spoke about the plans: ‘In the nearest future the Embassy will come up with the proposal on the translation of poems of Spanish poets and on the promotion of Azerbaijan literature in Spain.’

In conclusion, Afaq Masud donated to the honorary guest Selected Works by Miguel Delibes published by AzTC.
