“The Gregorian Church as an Espionage Tool Against the Safavid State”: Azerbaijani Academician’s Book Released in English

The English version of Azerbaijani Academician Ramiz E. Mehdiyev’s ground-breaking “The Gregorian Church as an Espionage Tool Against the Safavid State (17th-early 18th centuries)” – which reveals Armenian character traits -- has been released by the Azerbaijan State Translation Centre (AzSTC).

This is a seminal work in Azerbaijani historiography, tackling the intelligence and politico-ideological missions of the Gregorian Church against the Safavid state in the 17th century and first quarter of the 18th century, as well as Safavid shahs’ fighting against such sabotages. The author analyses the strategy and tactics of the ideological and clandestine missions sent by the Vatican to the Safavids.

This work is of considerable interest both to specialists – historians and orientalists, and to all who are interested in the history of the Safavids and the Gregorian Church.
