AzTC Scientific-Literary Board Holds Next Meeting

Chaired by Afag Masud, Director of the Translation Centre under the Cabinet of Ministers of the Azerbaijan Republic (AzTC), the Scientific-Literary Board held its next meeting on 11 March 2016. The Board held a discussion on the content of An Anthology of Azerbaijan Literature due to be released and Practical Spelling Dictionary of the Azerbaijani Language

In her opening remarks, Afag Masud said: "As you know, we are engaged in the project to publish An Anthology of Azerbaijan Literature in different languages and formats with the purpose of propagandizing Azerbaijan literature across the world. In late 2015, Moscow hosted the presentation of its Russian edition. The event was also attended by representatives of the Russian Union of Writers. Several books were handed to Russia's leading libraries and educational establishments. The Arabic edition of the book is expected to be released in Egypt, while the Turkish edition in Ankara, and the Belarus edition in Minsk. It is also being translated into English, German, French, and Spanish, and we are in talks to publish the foreign editions abroad. The content of the Azerbaijani edition of the Anthology presented to you is in a larger format than the foreign ones," she said. "Specifically during the translation process, in order to get the best examples of Azerbaijani literature across to a foreign audience, strange though it might sound, it has been found that that the source material is lacking. In other words, no anthology of literature, which is the hallmark of literature in every corner of the world has so far been released in our country. Therefore, it became necessary to redact Azerbaijani edition, too."

Next speeches were delivered by the Council members - Academician Nizami Jafarov, Professors Jelil Naghıyev, Vilayet Hajıyev, Pasha Kerimli, and Poet Ramiz Rovshen. The speakers shared their views and suggested their ideas on the works brought in the edition.

Later on, it was decided that the Anthology would be published as three volumes, and incorporate works ranging from folklore to modern literature, as well as works by famous South Azerbaijani poets and writers, and those writing in Russian language.

Finally, the meeting discussed the Practical Spelling Dictionary prepared by AzTC and the classification of words taken out from the Spelling Dictionary of Azerbaijani Language in use.
