Eurasian Writers Union President Visits AzTC

The Azerbaijan Translation Centre at the Cabinet of Ministers (AzTC) on Thursday received a visit from Chairman of the Society of Writers of Eurasia Dr. Yagub Omeroglu, for a roundtable discussion with its Director Afag Masud.

The guest focused on the policy of his organization in the field of literary translation and inter-literary exchanges, as well as the promotion and translation of Turkish literature into world languages and translation into Turkish of World Literature examples. "We have also published a number of Azerbaijani literary works in Turkey, and we wish to introduce works by Azerbaijan's modern writers and poets to Turkish readers.

Director Masud, in turn, highlighted related projects AzTC has been implementing underlining the importance of selecting and popularizing Azerbaijan literature on an international scale.

"Azerbaijani literature was earlier introduced into the world through personal connections and rare books published at the expense of the author," she said. "For this reason, overseas readers had long been deprived of reading the brightest samples of our literature, worthy to take its place among the best examples of literary thought. But the situation is different now. Thanks to the head of State Ilham Aliyev, who used best endeavours to promote the progress in all areas in Azerbaijan, our Center was established, which subsequently implements significant projects to promote Azerbaijani literature around the world."

She went on saying that "AzTC is building relations with leading international organizations working in this field: "We translate selected works by our poets and writers into foreign languages, promote the publication of these works in foreign journals, as well as publishing houses. We have prepared an anthology of modern Azerbaijan literature due to be published in several countries. We also plan to publish this anthology in brotherly Turkey," she added.

At the end of the meeting, gifts consisting of AzTC's books and printing material were given to the guest.
