As part of the visit to Egypt to attend the 46th Cairo International Book Fair, Azerbaijan Translation Centre (AzTC) representatives Farid Huseyn and Shahin Alasgarov met with Mr Anwar Moghith, the director of Egypt’s National Centre for Translation (NCT).
During the meeting at the NCT, Huseyn informed about the history and activity of the Azerbaijan Translation Centre and presented the list of examples of Arabic literature translated into Azerbaijani as well as the catalogue of literary works translated by AzTC.
“We are interested in Arabic culture and literature,” he said. "We are currently translating and preparing for publication the novels - The Path and Miramar, as well as stories by outstanding Egyptian writer Naguib Mahfouz. And we are interested in pieces of art by distinguished figures of Egyptian literature, such as Tofiq al-Ḥākim, Mahmoud Teymur, and others.'
The director of Egypt’s National Centre for Translation, in turn, shared his thoughts on the publications of the Anthology of Azerbaijani literature in Arabic and the composite book of Egyptian poetry and prose in Azerbaijani.
“I am very pleased that you are here to represent Azerbaijan at the Cairo Book Fair,” he said. “This is the appreciation of your merits in the field of bookpublishing and translation industry. I thank you and your leadership for the valuable contribution to our common goal.”
Regarding the translation, publication and distribution of the anthology of Azerbaijani literature in Arabic, Mr Moghith underlined the necessity of the assignment of copyright to the NCT: “In turn, we will assist you and do what we can for the translation and publication in Azerbaijani works by Egyptian writers. In addition, we set great store on the books published by our centers being released with a special copyright. In that case, this will be our common project - we will have equal rights in both countries, and will be able to distribute books. I am pleased that your Centre translates and publishes both literary and non-literary materials. But this would significantly boost the scope of our cooperation. I hope that we will soon reap the fruits of our cooperation,” he concluded.
