Translation Center lays the foundation for further cooperation with the Embassy of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia

June 10, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in Azerbaijan Mr. Musaid bin Ibrahim bin Abdullah al-Salim visited the Translation Centre (AzTC). After greeting the guest AzTC Director Afag Masud highlighted the history of the Centre, the work done since its launch, its ties with a variety of international organizations, as well as translations of works from Arabic literature, and interest in the Arabic world, culture and literature, and familiarized with the publications of the Centre.

The Ambassador spoke about strengthening ties between Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia in all fields, and noted the special role of literature and translation industry in this relation. “We hope that the visit of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev to Saudi Arabia will also contribute to the revival of ties in the field of literature and culture. As far as I know, there are more than five thousand Arabic words in the Azerbaijani language. Arabic is special, because Classical Arabic is also known as Noble Quran. As Azerbaijan is a Muslim country this language is also very important for you.”, he stated.

Then the Ambassador presented the director of the Centre the Memorandum of Cooperation with the Translation Office at the Ministry of Education of Saudi Arabia, as well as proposed to create a joint commission with representatives of Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia

'Having selected valuable samples from the literature of the two countries, the Commission can organize translation of samples from the Azerbaijani language into Arabic and from Arabic into Azerbaijani, and thereby help the implementation of joint projects. Translation Studies - is a delicate process. A strict control on both sides must be there, in particular, when it is related to literary translation. Saudi Arabia has a rich experience in this field.  We cooperate with the most experienced specialists. Despite, their activities are commissioned via relevant institutions”, stated the diplomat.

At the end of the meeting the guest was presented with a catalogue of publications of the Centre in Arabic.
