Egypt: Cairo International Book Fair Kick Off Today

The 46th Cairo International Book Fair launched on Wednesday. Representatives from the Azerbaijan Translation Centre (AzTC) are also attending the event. The inauguration was attended by Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Egypt Shahin Abdullayev, Consul Emil Rahimov, members of Azerbaijani Diaspora, students at Cairo University, as well as representatives from “Halqa” to protect and promote cultural heritage.

The bookstand allocated for AzTC that represents Azerbaijan at the fair was attended by Egypt's Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab, Minister of Religious Endowments (Waqf) Mohammed Mokhtar Juma, Minister of Culture Gaber Asfour, Minister of Industry and Trade Mounir Fakhry, and chairman of Al Ahram Establishment Ahmad Najjar.

“I am glad that Azerbaijan is participating in the 46th Cairo International Book Fair,” Minister Ibrahim Mahlab said. “Azerbaijan is Egypt’s important partner country. My attention settled on interesting books you are showcasing. I wish you every success.”

Ambassador to Egypt Shahin Abdullayev expressed his happiness with his country’s first participation in the book fair. “This is the second largest and most significant fair after the Frankfurt Book Fair. That culture, as well as literary and cultural exchanges play a key role in establishing international ties is an accomplished fact. A book fair is an important concept in promoting the national culture. Azerbaijan's participation in this international event is of great importance. Well, the Prime Minister and several ministers of Egypt visited our booth and shared their thoughts about Azerbaijan's participation in the fair. I wish the AzTC success representing our country in this fair and many other fairs in the future.”

Azerbaijan’s participation at the fair was broadly covered on TV channels “Egypt On TV” and  “Nile-Culture”, as well as in the news website Al-Youm al-Sabi. The bookstand consists of books about Karabakh truths, editions about the state and statehood, as well as books published by the Translation Centre and local publishers.

The Cairo Book Fair is one of the biggest book fairs in the world.
