Vilayet Hajiyev Awarded Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art First Class

Vilayet Hajiyev, dean of the Azerbaijan Languages University Translation Department, Academic Adviser of Austrian Scientific Library, associate professor has received the Austrian Cross of Honor for Science and Art First Class from the Austrian Federal President, based on the recommendation of the Federal Minister on Science, Education and Economy for his contributions to cultural relations between Austria and Azerbaijan, as well as his researches of Austrian Literature and translations of Austrian writers’ works into Azerbaijani.
In 2013, the Austrian Federal Ministry for Education, Arts and Culture honored Vilayet Hajiyev with a Translation Prize for his successful translation of Franz Kafka’s The Trial into Azerbaijani.
Vilayet Hajiyev is a founder of modern translation school in Azerbaijan. He has great merits in introducing German Literature through perfect literary translations to Azerbaijani readers. He has successfully translated into Azerbaijani language examples of works by world famous writers, such as Hermann Hesse, Heinrich Böll, Siegfried Lenz, Friedrich Dürrenmatt, Franz Kafka with an auditorium for many thousands.
