The First International Stage Play Contest Awards were announced at a ceremony at the TURKSOY International Organization of Turkic Culture headquarters in Ankara, Turkey on December 8, 2015. The event, co-organized with the Writers Union of Eurasia, the TURKSOY International Organization of Turkic Culture, and Turkey's Ministry of Culture and Tourism, celebrated the 100th anniversary of Haldun Taner, a well-known Turkish playwright and short story writer.
The Chairman of the Writers Union of Eurasia, Yagub Ömeroglu, opened the ceremony. A video documentary on Haldun Taner's writing was shown, and a welcome reception followed.
Later, Haldun Taner's play "I Close My Eyes and Do My Duty" ("Gözlərimi kaparım, vazifemi yaparım") was shown at the Küçük Tiyatro theatre.
Afaq Masud's work "Mansur Hallaj" won one of three awards out of 109 works from 18 countries, including Turkey, Iran, Iraq, Libya, Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. All three winning plays will be performed in theatres across Turkish-speaking countries.
